black dog: lost & found: my neighbor's dog, a mutt named shadow, jumped the fence again. usually when he does this he stays on our same street. this time, on father's day, he decides to wander blocks and blocks away. he's a big dog so chances of him getting hit by a car were slim. but chances of him scaring someone who might harm him? he's big but friendly. but people don't know this. luckily someone was able to keep him still enough for the police to pick him up and take him to the shelter for my neighbors to go and get him. he's four years old and still curious. but, my neighbors really need to get him microchipped or put a collar on him. update: shadow was let out of doggy jail with a microchip and five vaccines. woohoo!
on writing (i): so I really tried to do the 1000 words of summer challenge. unfortunately, allergies came at me hard and really took all of my energy. I think I'm just going to give myself a bigger goal for the entirety of the summer. maybe a solid first draft or 250 edited pages or something similar. nothing too specific where I feel pressured to accomplish it day-to-day.
currently reading: I am more than halfway through on the same page, it's a perfectly paced romcom with the right amount of cheesy drama, miscommunications, and spicy romance. I would love for this book to be adapted into a show. I think this is why I enjoy Emily in Paris so much. it gets a lot of hate but it's a wholesome and enjoyable show.
summer is all about getting back on track. like my writing, I'm going to get back into reading consistently no matter what. priory of the orange tree is still pretty fresh in my brain so I think I'm going to pick it up again. it will be my official epic summer read.
(re)watching: this is my first sunday off in about a month and all I wanted to do was watch a thrilling, action packed movie. after spending about half an hour looking at new movies and not really being interested in any, I decided to rewatch the captain america movies. I know there's this whole discourse around whether or not superhero movies ruined the movie industry, but these movies are no different than any other spy-thriller-action movie. they're political, emotional, mostly grounded, and, most importantly, have incredible characters you can empathize with or root for or hope they don't die.
on writing (ii): no doubt have the Japanese poets of long, long ago inspired my poetry since I was introduced to them in 2019. I also never cared too much about writing about my own lived experiences but my imagination was and is always running, so that's where I decided to focus my writing on. my thesis is 55 pages of fantasy inspired by the poetic writings and styles of these Japanese poets. here is the second poem in my thesis. enjoy and goodnight.
a moon of blue where water reigns, a moon of many a valley and mountain range; a white moon where glaciers shine; eleven moons in my sky; my moon and I but a sphere of red in their skies.
