âĻI really wanted to record a vlog of everything in this post while walking my dogs this morning but boy of boy my allergies made me sound like an asthmatic stuffed-up freak. I'll try again next sunday. I really want to start incorporating vlogs and audio recordings into my posts.ðĪð―ð today's sunday post is a rundown of reading, writing, and life. I hope you enjoy. ð
(1) a work kerfuffle
I'll begin with a big mamajama work problem that happened yesterday. it's not anything dramatic with another coworker, so drama lovers: sorry to disappoint. anyway, the grocery store I work at had a refrigeration problem yesterday where pretty much anything that needed to be cooled (milk, eggs, meat, salads, etc.) needed to be taken off the shelves, packed into whatever shopping cart or box available, and put into one of three available fridges and one freezer. each of these still had enough residual chill or freeze to keep these products at their necessary temperatures. now, when you go to a grocery store, you don't really stand back and take in the thousands of products before you. it took a team of three, including myself, about an hour and a half to pack up an entire wall of salads, dressings, mushrooms, and other greens. all of it probably amounted to about 800-900 items in total. and, maybe 30 minutes later, the refrigerator guy showed and fixed the issue in not even five minutes. which means: time to restock everything back onto the wall (which took another hour and a half). the only fortune thing about this was that the store was closed to the public and their constant interruptions. but it was all quite the pain and really lowered my morale. but, if this is the worst I have to deal with in my job, I'm fine with that. though, this was me at the end of my shift:
(2) movies to comfort me
once home and comfy cozy, I turned to my list of favorite (romantic) comedies to relax me and chose the following. they're fun, sometimes ridiculous, sometimes charming, but none of them stress me out or make me ponder what themes are present or understand complex characters. they're pure entertainment. and I love that.
*substack isnât letting me edit the cropping of these photos so oh well*
(3) update on may readings
so I officially stopped reading cleopatra & frankenstein. I just couldn't get into it. after reading 159 pages, I couldn't connect with any of the characters, nor did I like any of them enough to keep reading on. the paths of each character were very predictable and a little bit generic. truly no offense to the author but this book reads as if the primary demographic is young (white) women looking for a novelization of a romantic comedy that labels itself as drama.
to replace it, I chose the adventures of amina al-sirafi by s. a. chakraborty. it's been on my bookshelf for some time and I think a fun, exciting fantasy adventure is what I need right now. I recorded my thoughts on each chapter of cleopatra & frankenstein. if you're interested in reading them, I've attached them here.
(4) cherries
the cherry tree in my backyard has begun to bloom and bloom. Iâd say one or two more days and the cherries should be dark red and juicy. at my store, red cherries are 5.99/lb and rainer cherries 6.99/lb. expensive! I'm glad my mom decided to buy and plant this cherry tree five-ten (?) years ago.
(5) #1000words of summer
thanks to substack, I never would have found this cool writing goal and community. I'm going to try my hardest to write 1000 words every day for the first two weeks of june. though, realistically, I'm aiming for 500 words a day.
(6) my writing projects
my epic fantasy poem is currently on hold right now. I'm having writer's block with it. I just worry that it's too convoluted and heavy with exposition and world building rather than exploring an actual story and main character(s) to latch onto. so, for the month of june, I will begin a new projectâa novel set in the world I have already built but more grounded and character focused (with a fantasy backdrop) with a somewhat simple plot. it's always so exciting to begin a new project; there's so many possibilities to put onto the blank page.
(7) I'll end it here with a playlist
I love me some taylor swift but not so much her loud pop songs. I really enjoyed folklore and evermore, and midnights might be my favorite of all, but I like most her soft songs with quiet beats or acoustic backdrops.
until next time,
mere
First of all, I must say Draco is cute af!!
Secondly, I find it comforting that you also stop reading books when you find yourself uninterested. I've been feeling kind of guilty about it.
Overall, great post!!!
